Marchex is a call advertising and small business marketing company.

Marchex's mission is to unlock local commerce globally by helping advertisers reach customers wherever they may be - in mobile, offline and online channels, including on our own local and category websites. 

The Impact of Performance-Based Marketing:

Performance-based marketing products transform advertising markets because they are more efficient and measurable.  Performance-based models bring transparency to advertising spending, which reduces the monetary risk for the advertiser and can be used to drive better return-on-investment (ROI). 

The first big migration of advertising dollars to performance-based models occurred in the late ‘90s when performance-based advertising was introduced via the internet on a ‘cost-per-click’ basis for search text links.  In 1999, performance-based click advertising accounted for roughly $250m, or less than 5% of the $5 billion online advertising market.  Fast forward 10 years, and click-based performance advertising models dominate the online advertising market, which has grown to more than $30 billion globally.

The Opportunity Today:

Marchex Call Advertising and Small Business Marketing products sit at the center of the next big migration of advertising dollars to performance-based advertising models.  Today, advertisers are spending more than $35 billion annually across multiple media channels, such as yellow pages, newspaper, radio, and direct response television, with the specific intent to drive phone calls to their businesses. Marchex believes this $35 billion market is going to transition to performance-based call advertising products over the next 10 years and that we are currently crossing the point of inflection in this transition.  Although the methods by which consumers access information about businesses continues to evolve and change, the primary means through which consumers communicate with businesses, the phone, has not.  Advertisers large and small understand that phone calls from consumers are the key to unlocking local commerce.  More than 65% of businesses rate calls from customers as their highest lead quality over clicks or any other form of advertising.  However, to date, businesses both large and small have very little understanding of how to measure and increase customer calls.
