Michael Arends

Michael Arends

Chief Financial Officer

Mike has served as our Chief Financial Officer since May 2003. He oversees all financial strategy, forecasting and asset management. He also works closely with our leaders as an economic adviser and is a key driver of the company’s culture of accountability and transparency.

Prior to joining Marchex, Mike held various positions at KPMG, most recently as a Partner in KPMG’s Pacific Northwest Information, Communications and Entertainment Assurance practice.

Mike is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Accountant. A native Canadian, he received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta.

Ethan Caldwell

Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Ethan is a Marchex co-founder and has served as our Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Secretary since our inception in January 2003. He is responsible for all legal matters at Marchex including legal compliance, litigation, intellectual property protection, policy and regulatory affairs.

Ethan’s role here is that of business partner to the company’s key stakeholders and guardian of Marchex’s legal and ethical standards in all corporate operations.

Ethan was previously Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Go2Net and prior to that he was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Maryland.

Ethan received his J.D. from the University of Maryland and his B.A. in Political Science from Occidental College. He also is the Board President of the Rotary Boys & Girls Club.

Gary Nafus

Chief Revenue Officer

Gary leads our company’s sales, business development and client engagement teams. An advertising technology veteran, he has more than 15 years leading sales organizations for some of the world’s best-known enterprise software companies.

Before joining Marchex in 2015, Gary served as the Managing Director, Americas for Kenshoo, a leading marketing automation platform that manages more than $5 billion in annual advertising spend for global brands and agencies. Prior to Kenshoo, Gary was Vice President of Sales at Oracle Corporation in North America responsible for several vertical business units. He has also held senior sales leadership roles at PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards.

Gary holds a MBA in Finance from University of Denver and a BA in Marketing from Texas Christian University.

Travis Fairchild

SVP, Solution Consulting, Business Development

Travis is responsible for agency and strategic development for Marchex. He leads the internal search team, agency sales team and contributes to the management of distribution across Marchex’s mobile and online publisher network.

During his 10+ year tenure at Marchex, he has led revenue generation and monetization efforts for Marchex’s domain portfolio, publishing group and search engine teams. Travis enjoys the challenge and spirit of starting and refining business models for success. Prior to Marchex, he co-founded a browser based technology company, Echospace and assisted Internet start-ups in raising angel and institutional capital. He holds a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. from the University of Washington with a focus on technology and innovation management.

Amy Whaley

Vice President of People Services

Amy oversees all aspects of employee management, including compensation, benefits and recruiting. She holds the unique position of being an advocate for the company as well as for the employees who work here.

Amy joined Marchex in 2007 and immediately drove a rebranding of the human resources department to “People Services.” Her goal was to instill a culture of customer service for employees, which proved an important step in recruiting and retention. Amy is an executive sponsor and founding member of Marchex VOICEs, an employee-based group created to encourage, evolve and honor women and diversity in the workplace.

Prior to joining Marchex, Amy was a partner in the consulting firm Inside Results. She also held the top HR position at Who’s Calling. During Amy’s tenure, Who’s Calling was listed in the top ten Best Companies to work for by Washington CEO Magazine.

Amy holds a B.A. from the University of Washington, as well as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation from the HR Certification Institute. She’s also an active member of the Society for HR Management (SHRM).

Matt Muilenburg

Senior Vice President, Customer Evangelism

Matt joined Marchex with 8 years of product strategy and solution design experience, where he successfully launched several products and secured the issuance of 2 patents. Today, he oversees strategy for the extension of the Marchex analytics platform, with a focus on extending the reach of the platform into offline measurements and retail outcomes. His deep knowledge and background in digital advertising and online marketing is an asset to our clients.

Prior to joining Marchex in February, Matt used his passion for making advertising accountable to develop product solutions that are widely used across the automotive industry. In recent years, Matt focused on global growth and new market development, extending the delivery of his solutions into markets around the globe.

Prior to diving head first into product design, Matt’s career included Sales Management, Customer Service Management, Call Center Management, Client Management, Business Development, and Corporate Development.

Matt attended the University of Washington for undergraduate and law school.

Carrie Grant

Vice President, Local Operations

Carrie runs our Local Advertising group and oversees strategic partnerships and account management, as well as advertising and business operations. A key part of her role is creating solutions for small businesses faced with the challenge of marketing effectively in mobile and online. Carrie is an executive sponsor and founding member of Marchex VOICEs, an employee-based group created to encourage, evolve and honor women and diversity in the workplace.

Carrie brings more than two decades of experience in client service and employee development. Before joining Marchex in 2012, Carrie served as Bensussen, Duetsch & Associate’s (BDA) Director of Client Services, managing the strategic relationships for Fortune 100 eCommerce programs and custom product solutions for clients like NFL, GE, Ford, Hilton, Marriott, FedEx and Michelin.

Carrie has spearheaded initiatives focusing on efficiency and account performance growth during her time at Marchex, as well as engaging the development of our best and brightest employees. Carrie is an active member of the Seattle Women in Technology Group and the Connect: Women’s Network.

Anna Forbes, Country Director UK

Anna Forbes

Managing Director, UK

Anna oversees all aspects of the UK office, including growing the footprint across EMEA in Sales, Marketing and Client Engagement.

Prior to joining Marchex, Anna has led sales organizations for innovative advertising technology companies across a number of disciplines: contextual, native, video, mobile, programmatic and attribution analytics. Most recently, Anna served as the EMEA Sales Director at AppNexus, and as COO at Brainient. Anna is an active member of the UK Internet Advertising Bureau and a regular speaker at industry events with the IAB and the Digital Advertising Women’s Network.

Anna has a BSc (Hons) in International Management from University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology.
